First Aid and Emergency Care of Students
School nurses will provide first aid and emergency care for students who become ill or injured during the school day. If a student is too ill to remain in school, the parents are expected to make arrangements to pick up the student in a timely fashion.
If a child is injured and requires crutches or a wheelchair, a physician's note is required. The attending physician must indicate the diagnosis, define the extent to which activities should be limited, and note the anticipated period of time needed for recovery. The school can make certain accommodations to assist an ill or injured student, such as providing access to elevators and/or assigning another student to assist with carrying books or other belongings.
