    COLLEGE APPLICATION PROCESS

    CLASS OF 2023

    Strath Haven High School uses the Naviance program for submittal of official transcripts, Secondary School Reports (SSR), school profile, and counselor and teachers' letters of recommendation. We will be using Naviance eDocs for our electronic submissions.  This system delivers information to over 1,000 colleges and universities.

    Information and Forms

    All information and FORMS are posted on the SHHS website under the Guidance tab.  Please visit this location for a link to Naviance Family Connection.  Your username and password were given to you by your guidance counselor in both your sophomore and junior year.  If you do not have either of them, please see Mrs. Seifrit in the Counseling Center.


    MANDATORY

    Register on Common Application (www.commonapp.org) and note your username and password. When you log onto Naviance, click on the "Colleges" tab and then on the "Colleges I'm Applying to" link. You will be asked to sign off on the FERPA (Family Education Rights & Privacy Act) waiver and to provide your Common App information. 

    WE CANNOT SEND ANY DOCUMENTS UNTIL YOU DO THIS.

     

    We highly recommend that students waive their right to access recommendations, since colleges strongly prefer this option.  You must complete the FERPA even if you are not submitting the Common Application.


    Adding Colleges

    1. Log into Naviance- located on the left-hand side of the Guidance webpage on SHHS website
    2. Select "Colleges" tab
    3. Select "Colleges I'm Applying To," then "Add to List"
    4. Select "Type" of decision (regular, rolling, early decision, etc.)
    5. Select "Lookup" in blue to locate your school
    6. Check "I have submitted my application" if you have done so (you can do this later if you have not yet completed your app)
    7. Repeat this for any additional colleges you would like to add to your list
    8. Select "Add Colleges" (yellow button at bottom of screen)
    9. For schools under the “applying via common app” – if “unknown” appears, click on “unknown” and choose yes
    10. Click UPDATE

    Transcript Requests

    1. You must submit the paper Transcript Request and Permission to Transmit Student Records forms to Mrs. Clark in the Guidance Office. These forms are available on the SHHS website (Guidance tab) or in the Guidance Office.  Complete the forms and submit them to Mrs. Clark at least 3 weeks prior to the application deadline.  The Permission to Transmit form must be signed by a parent/guardian and is only required one time. Transcripts will not be sent until these forms are completed and returned to Mrs. Clark.
    2. Log into Naviance and click on the "Colleges" tab
    3. Select "Colleges I'm Applying to"
    4. Choose "Request Transcripts" in blue
    5. Check the box for each transcript you request
    6. Click "Request transcripts" button (yellow) at the bottom of the screen

    PLEASE NOTE:  Over 1,000 colleges and universities accept electronic transcript requests through Naviance.  It is YOUR responsibility to notify Mrs. Clark in the Guidance Office if your college is NOT listed on Naviance.  You may access a list of Naviance colleges through this link:

     
    If your college is not listed, please supply Mrs. Clark with the college's address and your transcript will be sent via U.S. mail.

    Teacher Recommendations

    Click on this link for most updated information on how to request a teacher recommendation -
    1. Log into Naviance and click on the "Colleges" tab
    2. Select "Colleges I'm Applying to"
    3. Click the “Teacher Recommendation/Add Request”
    4. Use the pull down menu to find the teacher
    5. Please give the teacher a verbal reminder before you select them on Naviance.
    6. Follow up with a thank you note and a thank you in person.
    IF THE COLLEGE DOES NOT USE NAVIANCE AND IS A "MAIL ONLY" SCHOOL:
    1. Go to the Guidance tab of the high school website (wssd.org)
    2. Go to  "Forms and Documents" on the left hand side
    3. Click on "Teacher Recommendation Form"
    4. Print this form and follow the instructions on it.  Give everything to the teacher(s) writing your college recommendation.
    5. Follow up with a thank you note and a thank you in person.
